I think that at least design-wise, this generation C5 looks a lot more high end than many German sedans. You ought to see a top trim one!

I'm not sure if they got that ironed out in later years, but the AL4-equipped Xantias had a terrible reputation for transmission self-destruction. Something to do with a cheap solenoid failing, resulting in expensive mechanical damage.
Citroën's relationship with automatic transmissions seems somewhat weird. The DS and CX only got automatics very late in their lives – Citroën preferred to use their own weird semi-auto designs that, although very clever, still required you to shift for yourself. It's almost as if they considered them an afterthought.
